Greg Bramwell wins at England’s Strongest Disabled Man

Date published: 17 May 2023

One of the world’s strongest men – from Rochdale – has been crowned one of England’s Strongest Disabled Men.

Greg Bramwell was born with a hereditary spinal condition, severely limiting his mobility – but he can pull a truck with his bare hands

Greg’s win in the Men’s Seated Class Two category at England’s Strongest Disabled Man this month means he has now qualified to compete for the British title this summer, and also the World title in Florida – a title he previously held in 2017.

The 36-year-old also holds the 2017 and 2018 titles of Strongest Disabled Viking in Iceland.

He said: “I always watched it as a kid but because of my disability, I never thought I’d get the chance to call myself some of the things I have over the years.

“In 2014 I messaged a world’s strongman competitor, Laurance Shahlaei, who did PT sessions down in Swindon, 180 miles from my house, so I went down to see him.

“He told me about the first Britain’s Strongest Disabled Man that was being held in 2015, which I entered and placed second.

“I’ve placed on the podium many times. Covid affected my training, but I got back to winning ways at the Arnold Sports Festival in Birmingham in September last year.”

Greg trains in the gym three or four times a week with rugby training on Thursdays. Since December he has also played wheelchair rugby for Rochdale Hornets.

He said: “I love doing this [strongman] to meet more people and to show my boys that anything is possible.

“I miss out on time with my kids but their pride when I come home with a trophy is great. I just want to make my two boys proud of their dad and show them anything is possible if you work hard and put the effort in.

“Nothing is given in life; you have to earn it.”
