Boxing: Hamer Boxing Club report

Date published: 25 May 2023

Hamer boxer Aeron “The Viking” Maddocks travelled to the Fusion in Liverpool on Tuesday 16 May to meet local boxer Jeremy Flores of Golden Gloves Boxing Club.

When the bell rang for the first round, his much taller opponent came out using his swift jab to score points, whilst keeping Aeron at bay. Then, after Aeron had tasted his opponents punch, he was suddenly aroused and energised, which led him to step into Flores when he threw his jab again and unleash three punch combinations to both the body and head as the Liverpool boxer lay upon the ropes. From there on, the Hamer boxer waited for Flores to throw his jab, before stepping back out of range, then stepping straight back into the action to unload even more telling punches. It was a highly entertaining round that saw both boxers gain success. But as the round proceeded, Aeron’s punches slowly began to take effect.

Before the start of round two, the Hamer coach, Steven Connellan told Aeron to start throwing his right hand to the chin, followed by his hooks to the side of the head, because Flores is approaching him with his left arm down by his chest.

The bell rang for the second round and Aeron instantly landed his right hand to his opponent chin. It was a tactic that forced Flores to hold onto the Hamer boxer every time Aeron connected with his right hand. But, he always broke free to land uppercuts to the chin and hooks to the side of the head. It was another thrilling and lively round that saw both boxers entertain the crowd with fast and effective punches. Aeron forced Flores back onto the ropes to land punches to the body, before unleashing a savage left hook to the face, which forced the Golden Gloves boxer’s mouth guard out of his mouth and into the crowd, which momentarily stopped the bout until it was found and replaced. Before the bell rang to end the round, Aeron landed even more telling right hands to the chin.

Although he thought Aeron was slowly winning the bout, the Hamer coach was slightly worried regarding the result because Flores was also inspiring his local crowd when he landed his occasional telling punches. The Hamer coach asked Aeron if he could take it up another level.

Just as the bell rang to start the third and last round and both boxers stepped out into the middle of the ring to touch gloves, before unleashing punches upon each other, which quite incredibly forced Aeron’s gum shield into the crowd. As soon as it was found and placed back inside his mouth, Aeron landed a savage right hand to the chin, which forced Flores onto the ropes, where the Hamer boxer unleashed blow after blow to both the body and head, before Flores grabbed hold of him, which forced the referee to split them apart. As the round progressed, both boxers gained success, before Aeron forced Flores back onto the ropes once again with another powerful right hand to the chin. Then he quickly stepped in to unload more savage punches to his opponent’s body and head. As the round slowly came to its conclusion, Aeron suddenly changed tactics, when he began to use the ring whilst boxing upon the back foot to gain even more success as he constantly landed his right hand to the chin before the bell rang to end the round.

The Hamer corner was anxious when both boxers stood by the referee with their arms in his hands, waiting for the verdict. But their worry turned to joy when Aeron’s arm was raised in victory with a win by unanimous decision.
