Cricketing legend Chris Gayle visits Milnrow Cricket Club

Date published: 06 June 2023

West Indies cricket legend and multiple record holder Chris Gayle visited Milnrow Cricket Club on Sunday (4 June).

Chris, who has sent motivational messages to the club over the years before their big games, made the visit to the club after the team revealed their kit colours for the season.

As a ‘thank you’ to the ‘Universe Boss’, Milnrow has opted for a Jamaican flag-inspired kit colour inspired by Chris’ country of birth.

Wayne Aaron, of Milnrow Cricket Club, said: “Chris is a friend of mine and over the years has sent motivational videos to the team before big games such as finals.

“As a thank you to Chris, the team’s new kit for this season are in the colours of Chris’s beloved Jamaica. Chris was so moved by the cricket club’s gesture that he wanted to come and say hi personally to the team and have a team photo.

“Chris also spent time playing cricket with the kids who were thrilled, as were the very proud parents. He even spent a little time behind the bar pulling pints!”

Chris is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen to have ever played Twenty20 cricket.

The ‘Universe Boss’ has played for the West Indies since 1999 and has set numerous records, including the most triple hundreds in a career and the most sixes in a career.

The southpaw is also the only batsman in T20 history to achieve 14,000 runs and holds 22 T20 centuries, and is the leading run scorer for the West Indies in both One Day Internationals and T20 Internationals.
