Brown back behind the wheel with Tour of Epynt entry

Date published: 27 July 2023

Steve Brown will return to active competition for the first time since May this weekend, as he is set to contest the Tour of Epynt in Wales on Sunday 30 July.

The Rochdale-based driver will be back behind the wheel of his Nissan Micra Kit Car at the challenging event, which offers almost 70 miles of undulating and unforgiving moorland roads across the infamous Epynt Military Ranges near Llandovery.

Brown has not had the busiest of years in the sport, having only contested the Manx National Rally on the Isle of Man a few months previously, and that outing was not without its challenges.

Despite vying early on in the event for a class podium, Brown endured a difficult weekend with oil cooler failure ending all hopes of a win but recovered to secure sixth in the hotly contested Class A battle.

Now, he and co-driver Paul Stringer will take on the challenge of the Mid-Wales asphalt ranges which are famed for their high speeds and blind crests, often catching out some of the best drivers in the business.

“It's exciting to be back out again,” said Brown.

“There is no pressure once again as we are not chasing a championship, but I know that the Epynt roads are very difficult to get right so I will be certainly treating them with respect.”

The main aim for the weekend is to gain seat time for the future, as Brown feels his lack of events will hamper progress when he returns to a full-time programme.

“The plan is to have fun and get some time behind the wheel again. The Manx was long, so it was good to get that feeling back again, but this event is more like a sprint so we still need to make sure the concentration levels are high. The Nissan should suit the roads a little better too and although it's been eight years since I contested an event on Eypnt, I`m sure I`ll be keeping a close eye on the times to see how we are doing throughout the day.”

"My thanks go to our sponsors and supporters for enabling me to compete at the weekend, it should be a good one."

Steve is sponsored by Fuchs Lubricants, 710 Oils, PIAA, Questmead, Mintex, Brake Prep, and Magnum Motorsport.
