Dream of a lifetime as Heywood inline hockey player, 11, has chance to play in US State Wars 2024

Date published: 02 March 2024

An 11-year-old inline hockey player from Heywood has the dream opportunity to represent the UK in St Louis, Missouri this summer at one of the most prestigious tournaments in the United States.

Jack Morton plays for the Atherton-based Devils Inline Hockey Club and has now been selected to take part in the 25th anniversary State Wars in St Louis in July.

The Holy Family pupil also plays ice hockey for Leeds Junior Knights, having picked up the sport in 2021.

Jack’s family have started a community fundraiser and a Facebook raffle group to help raise the £2,500 needed to send him to the States. The £2,500 target will cover travel costs, tournament feeds, equipment and accommodation.

Jack, is also currently on the Team GB squad for 2024 as a reserve for an international tournament in Spain in April, said: “This is a significant milestone in my hockey journey.

“Every contribution, no matter the size, brings me one step closer to proudly representing the UK team on the global stage.”

He added: “I understand that times are tough and I genuinely appreciate any support you can provide.

“Inline hockey is not just a sport to me; it’s a passion that has shaped my character, discipline and resilience.”
