Rocha Jiu-Jitsu holds first major competition

Date published: 25 February 2014

A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition on Saturday 22 February saw 18 children from the Rocha Jiu-Jitsu club compete against one another.

The competition had divisions based on age, height and weight and a separate division to find the club's best fighter.

Gold, silver and bronze medals were given out to competitors as well as awards for the best choke and the best take down.

Kamil Tomaszewski, who runs the club, said: “In total there were nine divisions and all together we handed out 27 medals. The open division is something which is quite popular in Ju-Jitsu competitions.”

This was the first major competition held by the club. Kamil said: “It went really well. We had a lot of support from the parents and we are really happy with how it all went.”

After the success of their first major competition, Kamil and the club now hope to hold a second competition later this year. Kamil said: “Hopefully we can do it again this year and make it bigger and better than the first one.”

Kamil also hopes to invite clubs from other areas of Manchester to compete in future competitions. “Hopefully we can invite other clubs to compete in other competitions we do because there isn’t anything like this at the minute,” said Kamil.
