Mayfield Preview

Date published: 27 February 2014

Mayfield begin their 2014 league campaign at home on sat when they entertain Cumbrian side Millom. The visitors didn’t have the best of seasons last year and will not be relishing this trip to Rochdale.

Mayfield beat them home and away last season and will be hoping to continue that run. After the disappointment of last week's Challenge Cup exit the coaches will be looking to start the game better on Saturday.

It was a poor opening that eventually cost the team dearly, although after that they matched their Premier Division opponents in every department.

There is only one doubt for the game, Joe Qanuici suffering after a clash of heads.

The return last week of Si Moore and Matty Williams was a boost to the side and their inclusion, along with the likes of Todd O’Brien and Lewis Sheridan, would form the basis of a very strong side.

In the sponsors box on Saturday along with Ace Electrical will be W. Murphy’s Transport and Haulage contractors.

Also kicking off their season is the NWML side, who face a tough test as they travel to Leigh Miners Rangers. Miners are one of the favourites in the division but this will not deter the Mayfield side, who again hope to be travelling with a couple of first team fringe players in the squad.

Last week's performance against St Pats was very pleasing for the coaches, who used the game to try out a couple of positional changes and to blood some young players.

The team will include a mix of old and young, with Simpson and Greaves leaving selection until the last minute. Hoping to impress again will be John Foy and Nick Hargreaves along with Mark Nyland and James and Billy Percy.

Fixtures 01 March 2014
