Ince Rose Bridge 24 - 34 Rochdale Mayfield U11s

Date published: 04 March 2014

Mayfield U11s made the long awaited start to the new season on Sunday travelling to Wigan to beat Ince Rose Bridge in what turned out to be an excellent game of rugby.

Mayfield made a good start to the game and took the lead early when Dylan Stott released a perfectly timed pass to Lee Wilson who barged his way over the line for a try which he converted.

Wilson scored again through excellent support play converted by Higginson.

Jack Birtles went over for the next try.

Excellent defensive work had put Mayfield in a commanding position with half time approaching, only for Ince to pull two tries back right on the stroke of half time.

Ince scored again immediately after the break andMayfield knew they were in a game.

An excellent solo effort from Ben Higginson, converted by Stott, put Mayfield further ahead.

The turning point in the game came when hooker Richard Drake scored with an excellent piece of opportunism close to the line, which he converted.

With the game almost at an end, hardworking Lee Wilson completed his hat trick with a determined blind side run, only to be mobbed by his teammates upon diving over the line. The try was converted by Jake Smith.

Points Tally: Wilson (14), Higginson (6), Drake (6), Birtles (4), Stott (2), Smith (2)

Man of the match, selected by the Ince Rose Bridge coaching staff, was Dylan Stott with the coaches award going to Richard Drake.
