Mayfield Preview

Date published: 24 April 2014

Mayfield face Hull outfit Myton Warriors at the Mayfield Sports Centre on Saturday as they continue their push toward Premier Division rugby. Myton are a decent side who had a poor start to the season but have won the last four, hence they come to Rochdale full of confidence and will be a tough side to beat.

Mayfield coaches Butterworth and Calland will be fielding a full strength side in anticipation of a hard fought contest. The recent signings of young forwards Niall Bradley and Jack Francis has given the side a boost and made the competition for place seven more intense, meaning everyone on the pitch on Saturday is there by merit and team spirit is running high.

Seta Tala has slotted in well at full back in the absence of Jack Sampson and Liam Whalley is enjoying his best season so far in a Mayfield shirt while the half back pairing of Butterworth and Brearley is working wonders.

Saturday's game will require a complete team effort if they are to come away with a win and that is exactly what Calland will be looking for as the teams take the field.

In the sponsors box along with Ace Electrical, are the parents of the Mustangs under 8s and friends: a club spokesman said: "We offer them a warm welcome and hope they get the classic they are hoping for."

Dunc Simpson and Anthony Greaves take the NWML side on the road as they attempt to reach the semi-final of the NWML trophy. Their opponents are Accrington, a side who Mayfield defeated comprehensively a couple of weeks ago but the Lancashire club have signed some class players since then and will be looking to avenge that loss.

Mayfield should have a strong side out with the fringe players from the NCL side dropping in to add their considerable experience to the young lads who have been starring so far this season.

Fixtures: 26 April 2014
NCL Div1:  Mayfield v Myton - kick off 2.30pm
NWML Trophy: Accrington v Mayfield - kick off 2.30pm
