Milford Marlins 18 - 30 Rochdale Mayfield

Date published: 10 June 2014

Mayfield's NCL team returned from fierce rivals Milford in Leeds with a hard fought victory on Saturday.

The Leeds outfit has proved to be a 'bogey' team in recent years but second placed Mayfield were in no mood to drop league points as they scored tries through backs Matt Calland, Seta Tala, Rob Kershaw and Sam Butterworth, who weighed in with a try and three goals.

Aidan Gleeson added a try for the forwards whilst two players returning to the first team, effective prop forward Gaz Ellison and try scorer Jack Sampson, added some enthusiasm and guile.

Captain Todd O'Brien took the man-of-the-match award for his polished performance in leading the team around the park.

Coach Matt Calland returned happy with the win and the squad strength available to him for next weekend's home game against York Acorn, who earlier in the season took a valuable point from promotion seeking Mayfield.

Mayfield Team: Seta Tala. Rob Kershaw, Nick Hargreaves, Matt Calland, Jack Sampson. Declan Sheridan, Sam Butterworth. Matty Moores, Todd O'Brien, Luke Sampson, Jo Qanuici, Liam Whalley, Ben Butterworth. Aidan Gleeson, Gaz Ellison, John Foy, Mark Biggins.
