'Man of Steel' Awards Night

Date published: 21 October 2014

Mayfield Rugby League wrapped up their highly successful 2014 season with a glittering 'Man of Steel' Awards Night.

Black Tie and Ball gowns were the order of the day as the players, supporters and members celebrated the promotion winning season in style.

Sam Butterworth took the main award, The Peter Birchall 'Man of Steel' trophy as the best player as voted by players, coaching staff and supporters.

Sam was clearly delighted to receive the accolade, presented by Ryan and Shannon, proud grandchildren of Rochdale Rugby League Legend Peter Birchall.

The Players player awards went to George Yewdale (Alliance) and Sam Butterworth (National Conference League), and the Player of the Year awards to Luke Hartley and Paul Brearley (NCL).

The future at Mayfield looks bright, with the Young Player of the Year award being shared between Daly Schofield and Declan Sheridan.

Mayfield would like to thank all their supporters and sponsors, particularly main sponsors The Tanners Arms, Full Contact Performance Centre, The KoKo Lounge, The Bridge Chippy and Kosco Building Solutions.

Mayfield now look forward to next season, beginning in early February 2015, as they return to the highest level of amateur Rugby League.

Pre-season training for all adult teams will commence under head coach Matt Calland at the beginning of November.
