Muavia Nasim the England Junior Youth Champion

Date published: 18 March 2015

Muavia Nasim is the England Junior Youth Champion in the Open Class category despite being only being a novice.

Nasim, of Queensway ABC, travelled down to the Croxteth Sports Centre in Liverpool on Sunday (15 March).

He was up against the odds fighting Shae Navarro, a local fighter on his home turf who had 19 fights under his belt.

Nasim started strong, punching with accuracy and catching Navarro at every opportunity.

As the bell ended for the first round Nasim was clearly in front.

Navarro came out for the second round looking to change things, however, Nasim caught Navarro with two fantastic shots and forced the referee to step in and give Navarro a standing eight count.

Navarro never really recovered and Nasim stepped up the pace and forced a second standing eight count.

The thrid round saw Navarro clearly frustrated and unable to figure out Nasim, who tagged Navarro shot after shot until the end of the bout.

Nasim's hand was raised and he was crowned the champion.

Head coach David Hodkinson said: "That was without question the best performance of the entire day. He did everything he was told and more. The crowd were on their feet and everyone was congratulating him as he left the ring."

Nasim is now down to the final four and is two fights away from being crowned the number one boxer in England in his category.
