Three winners tankards for Leanna Daniels at the Ironbridge Regatta

Date published: 06 July 2015

Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club's Leanna Daniels won three winners tankards in the mixed IM1 double sculls with Reece Handley, the mixed IM2 double sculls with George Kershaw, and the mixed IM2 coxed four with George Kershaw, Reece Handley, Lucy Swithenbank, and Nathan Scheider (cox) at  the Ironbridge Regatta.

The HLRC juniors, new to this regatta, came up against unknown opponents from Bristol, Worcester, and the South West Region. Tom Swithenbank was first out with a quarter final race before 9:00am. Tom lost in a hard fought race against Minerva Bath.

In the WJ14 double sculls HLRC had two crews. Sally Tisdall and Maggie Page lost by just a canvas against Worcester RC in their quarter final. Hannah Lowe and Molly Archbold won their quarter final but were beaten in a close semi-final by Monmouth School.

The J14 coxed quad, Maurice Barber, Tom Wing, Nathan Scheider, Harry Heywood and Amy Aspinall (cox), are a new crew growing in confidence and determination. They put in an excellent performance but lost to a more experienced crew from Worcester RC.

The WJ15 quad swapped from two oars each to one each and entered their first sweep rowing race. As there was no competition in their own age group they had to enter the women's novice coxed four race.

This meant competing against women a lot older and stronger. However, Jess Pilkington, Lucy Lonergan, Harriet Jackson, Amy Aspinall and Sophie Webb (cox), were not fazed by this and rowed with fantastic determination to win their quarter final against Welbeck College by six lengths.

In the semi-final they were up against Grosvenor RC and despite a supreme effort, they could not beat them across the finish.

Keith Lawton and Tim Booth, recent silver medallists in the National Masters competition, were not successful in their Master E double sculls race. The J15 double sculls of Tom Swithenbank and Tom Bullock also suffered a defeat against a strong Huntigdon crew.

The WJ14 coxed quad, Molly Archbold, Hannah Lowe, Sally Tisdall, Maggie Page and Harry Heywood (cox), had a bye in the quarter final and lost in a close semi-final race.
