Mayfield Preview

Date published: 16 July 2015

Mayfield play hosts to Egremont Rangers at the Mayfield Sports Centre on Saturday.

Egremont beat Mayfield in the reverse fixture 26 - 10 and to be fair it was a game Mayfield never looked like winning.

Much has changed since then with Mayfield climbing the league after some stunning victories.

Egremont on the other hand have slipped into the bottom half of the table. They are not a team to be underestimated though with some great scalps to their name, including Leigh Miners.

Matt Calland will wait until Saturday before naming his side with key players Todd O'Brien and Eric Johnson unavailable due to holidays, also missing are Sean Mulcahy and Joe Quanici both injured. He will be hoping for returns from Lewis Sheridan, Callum Marriott, Gaz Ellison and Mark Biggins.

Last week’s win at Lock Lane was a real boost to the side after the loss to third division Thornhill the previous week.

Calland's second in command, Sam Butterworth said: "It was great to see the spirit shown by the lads at Castleford, we showed our quality from start to finish. Lock Lane are a good side with a good pedigree and it took a massive effort from us to beat them on their own meadow.

“There were some outstanding performances from the side Aidan Gleeson was immense as were Dec Sheridan and Liam Whalley.

"I feel sorry for Sean Mulcahy, who suffered a neck and shoulder injury right at the end of the game, he'll be out for a few weeks now just as he was coming into form but that’s the game we are in and we have to deal with that."

Mayfield's NWML side are also at home as they entertain fellow strugglers Bank Quay Bulls the sides occupy the bottom two berths in Division Two so a close fought game is expected with both sides hoping for the two points which could see them climb out of the relegation zone.

The side have paid the price for the injuries picked up by the senior squad and have struggled at times to field a full side so any ex-players out there who are thinking of donning the boots ring either Simon on 07920 865 106 or Curly on 07922 517 135 you can come down and sign on on the day.
