£2,000 raised for Aidan Gleeson's BARLA tour

Date published: 29 July 2015

There was a real party atmosphere at the Mayfield Sports Centre on Sunday afternoon as the club got behind Aidan Gleesons fundraising attempts for his upcoming BARLA tour to South Africa.

A packed club enjoyed face painting with Amanda Hughes who applied ginger beards, Aidan's trademark, to the kids.

There was a raffle with enough prizes that most people seemed to win at least one.

Outside undaunted by the rain Dunc Simpson and Emma Patterson rustled up the burgers while there was potato pie in the kitchen.

In the club there was a live music set from Heywood youngster Jake Owens which had the crowd rocking. Jake also welcomed audience members up for a live version karaoke which went down a storm.

Aidan was over whelmed by the support and would like to thank all who attended and those who helped on the day including Emma Patterson, Amanda Hughes, Dunc Simpson and Jake Owens who gave his services free for the cause.

"It's days like this that make you love rugby league even more" said Aidan, "We're one big family and the people that turned out have made it possible for me to fulfil my dream.

“It's a fantastic opportunity for me and I intend to do myself, Mayfield and Rochdale proud. Thanks again to all".

Chairman, Simon Howe said he was very pleased with the way the event turned out.

"Aidan’s a popular lad and Sunday proved just how popular he is.

“He has worked hard over the years to get where he is today and he deserves it, he is having a great season so far and has played a major part in Mayfield’s successful campaign.

“Aidan also helps out with coaching with the Mustangs youth section at the club and with his big bushy beard is a familiar sight around Mayfield.

“We wish Aidan Good luck on his tour but also in everything else he undertakes, he truly is a smashing lad.

“We would also like to thank each and every person who turned out and contributed to a fantastic total of almost £2,000 raised."
