Milnrow resounding win at Heyside

Date published: 17 August 2015

Milnrow followed up last week's record breaking victory with another resounding win, this time at Heyside on Saturday.

Minrow secured a ten wicket win following an outstanding display of seam bowling from Aaron Brown and Brandon Diplock.

Heyside were dismissed for 65 in just over 16 overs and Milnrow reached the total without the loss of a wicket within the first ten overs of their innings.

The toss was always going to be crucial given that the day before the game much of the ground was under water following the heavy rain of Friday, and having won the toss, Captain Max Power did not hesitate to put Heyside into bat. Great credit must be given to all the staff and players at Heyside for getting this game on. They had clearly worked hard throughout the morning in order to ensure that the ground was in very good condition for the start of the game.

Once Milnrow won the toss, they needed to start well with the ball and they did this. Diplock bowled sharply from the start and in his first over he had Holt caught at square leg.
The latest of Milnrow's talented youngsters to be getting a taste of first team action, sixteen year old Aiden Clarke, took a sharp catch and it gave the team real momentum.

In the next over Brown removed the other opener, Selby, and following this wickets tumbled regularly. Only Campbell offered any resistance, making 37 runs, and he was last man out for Heyside.

Brown and Diplock both finished with five wickets each and this was fully deserved given the quality of their seam bowling. Diplock has now passed 30 wickets for the season and Brown stands on 29.

Milnrow's fielding was sharp throughout and eight of the wickets taken were catches, with Dryden taking three sharp chances. Skipper Power was delighted with the performance of his team.

Professional James Price ensured that Milnrow cruised to victory.

Already in superb form, Price plundered 54 runs within the first nine overs with some fine shots and in doing so he passed 1000 league runs for the season, an excellent return.
At the other end Crabtree maintained his form with a solid 16 not out.

Milnrow have now won their last three and approach the final five games of the season with increasing momentum and confidence.

The players know that they need five victories if they are to secure a place in the top division of the new Pennine League and will look to continue their progress with Saturday's home game against Werneth.
