Wardleworth Maktab 4 - 1 Idaara FC

Date published: 24 August 2015

Mosques and Islamic institutes across Rochdale came together to participate in a football tournament. The eventual winners were ‘Wardleworth Maktab’ in an enthralling final where they beat ‘Idaara FC’ 4-1.

The event, organised by Young Muslim Organisation (YMO), based in Rochdale, brought together youngsters under the age of 15 to actively participate in an enjoyable yet competitive tournament.

One of the mosque teachers gave a speech at the start of the tournament and highlighted the importance of good character amongst Muslims.

Dewan Choudhury, part of the management committee of Wardleworth Community Centre, who were one of the sponsors of the tournament, re-emphasised this by adding: “We as Muslims have to be the walking, talking Islam.

“When we go to school, work or in every part of our life we have to show the real Islam through our good conduct as opposed to what the media portrays.”

During the event, participants and teachers joined in prayer as an act of unity and to "show the compatibility of enjoying oneself and fulfilling religious obligations".
