Rochdale Mayfield 48 - 18 Hull Dockers

Rochdale Mayfield continued with their pressure on league leaders when they got back on the winning trail after coming of the rails last week.

They overcame a strong Hull Dockers a top six contender like Mayfield with a four try haul from evergreen player/coach Matt Calland.

The game started well for Mayfield with Calland and centre partner David Wood crossing the whitewash along with live wire Dec Sheridan putting Mayfield into a 24-6 lead before Dockers Ross Kemp scoring 12 unanswered points on the hour mark making score 24-18.

Mayfield's fitness told in the last 30 minutes seeing them see out the game with tries from second rower Liam Whalley and a brace from Lewis Sheridan while Matt Calland crossed for his fourth try of the afternoon.

Assistant Coach Sam Butterworth fresh from converting all the second half tries said: "What a way for the boys to bounce back after last week’s disappointing defeat we really put the foot down in the second half with some scintillating play from Paul Brearley and some determined running from man of the match David Wood, we look forward to the trip to Wigan St Pats on Saturday."

David Wood Mayfield man of the match said: "I have really settled now in the side and am performing well as all of the lads around me are motivated to try and finish top of the table."

Last Wednesday's game with Wath Brow Hornets was postponed in agreement with Mayfields due to industrial action at the Sellafield Nuclear Plant and as a safety concern leave was cancelled by the operating company. This game will now be played on Wednesday 7 October at 8pm.

Before this game Mayfield are away to Wigan St Pat's this Saturday with a 2.30pm kick off which now that the play-off position is confirmed Mayfield will be looking to keep the pressure on the top two until the end of the season.

At home this Saturday at 2.30pm at Mayfield Sports Centre the NWML team play Halton Farnworth in their last home match of the season.
