Mayfield Preview

Date published: 15 October 2015

After a superb season and a highly creditable third place finish Mayfield begin the play offs on Saturday with a home tie against sixth place finishers Hull Dockers.

Mayfield did the double over the Hull side during the season so will go into this game as favourites.

That said they will also go into the game knowing that there are no easy games at this level and especially at this stage of the proceedings.

It's been a while since Mayfield were in the play offs so they will be hoping to make a show of it.

A win on Saturday would give a home tie again against the winners of the fourth versus fifth game, Wigan St Pats versus Wath Brow, so there is all to play for at the Mayfield Sports Centre in this all or nothing, sudden death game.

Coaches Matt Calland and Sam Butterworth will take their time with team selection and have some tough choices to make in selecting the right 17 for the job.

Mark Biggins and Dec Sheridan have both recovered from the rough and tumble of last week’s game but Jake Boardman is a doubt with a shoulder injury.

The rest of the squad came through and are all raring to go and have trained hard this week while trying to secure their places.

In the twenty two game season Mayfield amassed 720 points, an average of 32 points a game, by far the highest number scored in the top flight.

Dockers on the other hand have one of the poorest defensive records having allowed in 604 points.

So Calland's free scoring side will be looking to pile the points on early in the game to secure the win and move towards the next round in the play offs.

Saturday’s sponsors are the NWML side.
