Knowldale Car Club touring run

Date published: 20 March 2013

Last weekend Knowldale Car Club held the Mini Miglia Touring Run. The run was held to celebrate the 60th Anniversary famous Mini Miglia Road Rally, which in its day was one of the top rallys in the country and was the first rally to ever be won by a Mini, driven by the late Pat Moss.

A 24 car entry, ranging from classic cars, Porsche, Mini, MG and a little Austin A35, through to modern road and rally cars, up to a Porsche Boxter, set out on the 135 mile route, once used by the Mini Miglia Rally in the past.

Starting from the Lancaster services on the M6 and they headed off through the scenic Trough of Boland, before reaching the lunch time break at Hawes.

From there the cars, following a re group headed off around the famous Butter Tub loop.

Snow caused a few moments for some cars, as did the narrow roads; the Boxter was unable to pass through a narrow bridge and had to detour slightly, testing the navigation skills of the codriver and the mini had to successfully battle through the snow drifts.

The final section of the tour took the cars back south, over the open moors, back through the Gisburn Forest to the final control at Gisburn. Then a short run the for a well-earned ‘chippy tea’ and time for the crews to relay stories.

All the crews made it back to the finished and all reported that they had enjoyed themselves and will be look forward to the next event.

"We are very pleased that everyone enjoyed it" said the club secretary, Steve Warrington, "we have already started planning for next year’s and would like to see a lot more crews out there."
