Oulder Hill Community School and Language College

A group of 32 Year 10 students were given the opportunity to step on board the Key 103 bus and make their very own radio advert.

As part of an initiative aimed at advertising the new Rochdale 6th Form College, the students were asked to work in groups and to script, rehearse, and perform their own 30 second advert for the college.

The groups had to work under strict timing deadlines and be extremely creative to produce something to grab the audience’s attention, which they all certainly did!

The groups are now waiting on tenterhooks to hear which one has been successful and will then be given the opportunity to go to Key 103 and have the opportunity to actually record a real advert and, if successful, have it played on air.

Watch this space to find out who its going to be!

Boys Dance

Lewis Casey, Lee McNiffe, Scott McNiffe and Connor Pickup have been working with Miss Bold at the extended curricular Boys Dance Club since September to create a performance piece fusing together break dance and contemporary styles. The four boys have worked extremely hard and have been very committed since September and have given up lots of their own time to create a fantastic and dynamic piece of work.

Miss Bold hopes that the piece will be performed in school assemblies to inspire other boys to get involved with the dance club and is also intending for the piece to be performed in the Spiral Dance Showcase at the end of this term.
Miss Bold would like to say a big thank you and well done to the boys and will be rewarding them with a celebration meal at Pizza Hut.

The Apprentice

Round one of this year’s Apprentice Competition is up and running. There are 40 competitors in Year 10 which have been split into 10 teams of four, all linked to a Year 7 form. Each has been given £10 and asked to raise as much money as possible in five days to support a Year 7 trip to Burrs Country Park. Students did all kinds of things including selling food, a penalty shoot out and sponsored silence. In total, students raised £900. Elimination will take place next week.
