Wigan Warriors
Earlier this month 5 budding newspaper reports went in search of a scoop and an exclusive! The Year 11 Media students were privileged to be invited to a ‘media day’ at the home of Rugby League, Wigan Warriors. This entailed them attending a pre-match press conference where they were given the opportunity to ask questions to players and more importantly get the team sheet before anyone else! The pupils task was to produce a match report about the game, and what a game it was with Wigan running out worthy winners 48 – 24! After the match the pupils were then given access to an interview with the Warriors assistant coach Shaun Wane with the opportunity to ask more questions and gain a greater insight in to the teams performance and what more importantly what the management thought about it! The night was a tremendous success and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to be roving reporters!

Basketball
Congratulations to the Year 8 basketball team who won the Rochdale Schools’ Competition. They won all three of their games against Cardinal Langley, Springhill and Middleton. The players involved were Michael Moore, Bilal Ahmad, Jack O`Neill, Usman Mohammed, Anthony Burley, Abdul Shahid, Ayub Majid, Martin Miller, Conner Fitton, Ben Ratu, Alex Maughan, Junaid Choudhary. Oulder Hill are now Rochdale Champions at all age groups which is a fantastic achievement!

Easter Egg Competition
The winner of the LRC Easter Egg Competition was Sidhra Mahmood from 7F and the runner up was Abi Nelson from 9B. Well done to everyone that took part.

Ski Trip
This year the ski trip was to Saalbach/Hinterglemm in Austria. Good organisation, fantastic kids and an excellent rep meant this trip was a massive success. Pupils skied for four and half hours every day. Evening activities included a trip to watch the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Zell Am See, swimming (there was also an outdoor pool that was freezing) and a pizza night in an exclusive area of the resort. By the end of the week all of the 33 pupils were able to ski and they were an absolute credit to themselves and the school.

Football
The Year 10 football team played a double headed match against Cardinal Langley last month. This included a league play off and a cup semi final. It was a very close and competitive game with both teams matching each other, resulting in a 2-2 draw at full time. The game continued to be close in extra time and eventually went in to a penalty shoot out which went to sudden death. The lads managed to hold their nerve and we eventually came out as winners. In the final which took place the following week they beat Siddal Moor by 4 goals to nil. The team played superbly and every player put in a great amount of effort. The win means that Oulder Hill are now the most successful school in the cup at Under 15’s level, having won the trophy now 6 times. We have also just found out that the team has shared the winning of the league with Cardinal Langley.

Congratulations to the following students for all their hard work and commitment they have shown throughout the year: Matthew Green, Ben Johnson, Ryan Slack, Dom Welsby, Dale Roberts, Jordan Brine, Elliot Wild, Josh Marsden, James Taylor, Corey Best, Chris Johnson, Lewis Neal, Samad Mohammed, Ben Sosongchan, Austin Orton, Ross Brown and Sam Clayton.
