Students helped out at Millfield’s National Open Day

The Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, Peter & Monica Rush and Jim Dobbin MP opening the Millfield Bupa Care Home National Open Day with the Siddal Moor students
A group of Siddal Moor Students and staff helped out at Millfield’s National Open Day on Friday afternoon (21 June).
The students, from Year 10 and 11, were able to use the event as part of their coursework for their Health and Social Care course; it provided them with valuable experience of dealing with care home residents and their families.
The girls manned the Bric-a-Brac stall and the toy stall which helped to raise money for the resident’s fund.
The care home had a great turn out on the day from families and the general public and the weather held off allowing everyone to enjoy the sunshine.
The event was opened by the Mayor of Rochdale, Peter Rush and some of the students got the chance to meet him.
Former student of Siddal Moor, Robert Blakebrough got into the swing of things when he allowed himself to be soaked to raise money.
Care home staff commented on how much having the students helping out and getting involved added to the day.
