Hamer Community Primary School

Date published: 08 September 2014

Welcome back to another school year at Hamer. It has been fantastic to see all the children safe and well and in school this week. For those of you who celebrated Eid over the summer holidays – We hope you enjoyed your celebrations with your friends and families. Thank you for your support with school uniform. The children all look incredibly smart as part of our School Community! We are all looking forward to another successful year.

As you know, a number of new staff have joined our team this year. We are sure that you will join us welcoming the following members of staff into our School Community.

Mr Moore - Headteacher
Miss Gough – Yr1 Teacher
Miss Weaver – Yr3 Teacher
Mr Nadin – Yr3/4 Unit Leader/Teacher
Miss Holden - Yr5/6 Unit Leader/Teacher
Miss Maher - Yr3/4 Support

The Hamer year got off to an exciting start with a visit from the Skylight Circus in Upper Key Stage 2. The children and staff loved spinning plates and learning fun balancing acts!

This year, Hamer is looking at how we can enable all of our children to become leaders of their own learning and that of others. More to follow, later in the year in a parent’s presentation. Watch this space

It is vital that we always have up to date emergency contact details for every child. If any parents mobile number, landline or address changes it is their responsibility to inform the school office as soon as possible. In addition, please ensure that all telephone numbers given are ones that will be answered when rung. Thank you for ensuring we have the necessary details so that we are able to effectively communicate with you during the school day if this is necessary.

Contact forms have been sent home on Friday. Please return them to school as soon as possible

Reminders

• Punctuality is essential. - Children must be inside their classrooms at 8.50am.
• Uniform. - The children are looking very smart; to ensure high standards in line with the expectations set out on the website and Parents Handbook.
• Parking - The disabled parking spaces are strictly for blue badge holders only and these must be clearly on display. These bays are not to be used to drop children on at school. Thank you.

School Dinners are now free for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children. The price for all other children in school is £9.75 per week. Please pay this on a Monday in an envelope with your child’s name on if possible.

The children in Year 4 will start their statutory swimming curriculum after the February half term. All children will be taught this basic life skill through lessons at Rochdale Swimming Baths. This time around, the children are going to have an hour long session instead of the usual 30mins to help with a more structured time in the water for the children.

Celebration assemblies for ‘Star of the Week’, ‘Citizens of the Week’, Attendance Awards and other successes will begin again on Friday 12 September at 9.10am.

In addition, Thursday class assemblies will begin on Thursday 11 September.

It was brilliant to see so many of you every week during the last academic year and look forward to your support again this year. Remember – you are welcome to any of these assemblies, even if your child is not directly involved. Come along and join our celebrations.
