The New SEN Code of Practice
You will be aware that on the 1 September, the new SEN Code of Practice came into force for schools to implement. There are major changes with regard to many aspects of special educational need and the different reforms. The Local Authority has been working closely with Redwood to prepare our readiness for the implementation during this academic year. It is my intention to provide regular updates to parents / carers on what it means for you and your child.

Charity Status
We are delighted to inform parents/carers that during the summer holidays we were informed that ‘RedAid’ been granted Charity Status. Many thanks to those who have worked hard to achieve this!

Year 7 New Starters!
The new timetable for our Year 7 pupils began this week and all those youngsters are coping really well with their lessons!

Home School Planner
You will have received your son/daughter’s Home School planner this week. This is a vital aspect of our communication with families and helps staff to respond to your issues.

Internship Residential
Those 6th form students entering the Internship Programme have attended a pre course residential this week as a team building focus and preparing them for the new challenges ahead. Well done to all concerned – I know it has gone very well.

Hydrotherapy Pool
We have been notified by the school contractors that the pool will be out of action for a few weeks to enable urgent maintenance work to be carried out. We are planning alternative provision for the next few weeks at the small pool at the leisure complex with hoisting in place and at Springside and Newlands School.

After School and Youth Club programme
Thank you to parents/carers for your feedback on the recent summer holiday club programme which is extremely positive. The staff responsible for the programme have met to review these and any issues will be addressed. The online booking system for the October half term club will be open from September 15 to 26. The after school clubs and youth clubs will start next week commencing Monday 15 September.

Holiday Requests
Due to recent changes to the guidelines regarding holidays during term time we can no longer authorise absences/extended holidays. If you do require time off during term time, absences will only be authorised under extreme circumstances.
Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Key Stage 3
Key stage 3 would like to say a BIG welcome back to all year 8 & 9 pupils, the New Year 7 pupils and Matthew a Year 8 pupil; everyone has settled in well and is getting used to their new timetables.

A special recognition for Matthew for showing great respect and being polite by holding the door for the people behind him without being asked. Thank You.

Before the summer holiday Tina and many pupils in KS3 very kindly created a graffiti wall for Mrs Wilson, it looks fabulous –extremely colourful and captivating. Thank you very much to you all.

Mrs Sheerins is hoping that everyone saw the “Supermoon” on the 9 September. We have had 3 supermoons this year. Pupils in 8/9 Purple will be discussing what a supermoon is as a part of their Earth & Space topic in science.

Pupils in the Lilac group are looking forward to starting their swimming session over at Oulder Hill pool and their Enrichment group outings.

Ethan & Amy two of our new Year 7 pupils won the Superstar award in Mr Butterworth’s PE group.

Year 7 blue inclusion Maths group are doing really well and enjoying their learning.

Key Stage 4
Welcome back to all staff and students.

Staff were bowled over when 4A went on strike and decided to go bowling, which was right up their alley.

SEB group made some name logo’s for their work tables. They also did a self-portrait for the Investors in Pupils board.

Key stage 4 students have been trying out the technique of marbling during their base lining in art this week. They have created some wonderful effects and enjoyed the experience.

Key Stage 5
Form 5A went on a residential this week. Fran and Phil took the group to Burrs Activity Centre in Bury where they took part in activities such as rope work, raft building, canoeing and problem solving. There also visited The Trafford Centre for shopping and an evening meal, and had a trip to The Rock in Bury to eat at The Flaming Dragon buffet. It was a great chance for everyone to get to know each other.

Students on the internship route are getting excited about the imminent opening of the café which should be in the next few weeks. Students will work on a rota system, preparing drinks and snacks and serving customers.

Welcome to all our new Year 12’s!
