RedAid gets Charity Status

Our school charity ‘RedAid’ will be hoping to utilize the charity status which was awarded in July. The committee met earlier this week to discuss some of the priorities to meet the needs of youngsters with learning disabilities. Parents/Carers will be kept updated on a regular basis on developments.

Family Halloween Disco

This family event will take place on Tuesday 21st October, 6pm to 8pm, and all families are invited to attend. There will be refreshments, pie and peas, fancy dress competitions and a disco.

Internship Programme

As the Year 2 Internship Programme commenced with the residential last week, it is worth highlighting to parents and carers the incredible success story from last year’s group. Three students progressed and were offered full time employment with local employers which is testament to the outstanding programme delivered by the staff. 

Bridging Year Programme - ‘Top Gear’ Top Students

After a successful first year vocational course at Mantra, next week a group of Bridgers` will have the opportunity to test the model kit car they have constructed over the past year at Aintree circuit. What an amazing opportunity and I look forward to hearing about their adventure.

Year 5 & 6 Open Day

On Thursday 25 September, 10.00am – 11.30am, we will be hosting our Open Day for families and youngsters in Years 5 and 6 in local schools who may be starting at Redwood in the near future. This is the start of the transition programme for these youngsters and their families.

After School and Youth Club programme

The online booking system for the October half term club will be open until 26 September. The after school clubs have started this week offering clubs such as multi sports, cookery, crafts, hair and beauty, ICT, music, football, film, Wii and swimming. Something for everybody.

KS5

Student of the Week: Jobie for some excellent articulate comments and joining in much better.

Most improved Student: Nurjahan for improved communication and displaying a great sense of humour.

There is a new college option on Mondays. Some students went to Middleton Hopwood Hall campus to start a course in Animal care. Students were introduced to a variety of animals and helped with feeding.

5A are back from their residential at Burrs Activity Centre. It looks like everyone had a fabulous time. Our guest editors asked them a few questions:

Q: What did you enjoy most? A: Being with my friends of course
Q: What time did you go to bed? A: 11.40
Q: Did you have comfortable beds? A: No they were too flat

KS3

Pupils in the Lilac room are doing really well getting to know each other through their topic work all about New Beginnings.

During tutor time Nazmeen, Safiya and Aryan had great fun ‘messing’ with the foam soap.

The new Year 7 pupils have settled into their ICT lessons fabulously; they have been working on “Introducing Myself” using a variety of communication aids, computer equipment and a selection of ICT programmes. They have also been working well in their P.E lessons focusing on ball skills and the important rules in P.E including safety. 

Pupils in the Year 7 Red group have been busy collaging a vegetable art piece in their English lesson from the book “Oliver’s vegetables”. While the Year 7 Yellow group made Leek & Potato soup for their healthy eating topic in PSHE.

KS4

This week 4U have been taking part in lessons about drug awareness. They tried on some ‘beer goggles’, although we did have fun trying to walk around the room in them the students realised that it is not safe to loose control for drink and drugs.

4A have taken part in rebound and been taking turns with turn taking games.

Students from 4C have been working hard in Art. They were using the frottage technique to create rubbings of a textured surfaces.
