Health and Well Being Week: World Diabetes Day – Friday 14 November
On Friday 14 November we are holding our ` TypeOnesie ` day to raise funds for World Diabetes Day. We are encouraging students to wear a Onesie for the day and donate £1 to the charity. I will be wearing a Onesie all day for my meetings in school and I am encouraging all staff and parents to sponsor me.. Please try your best to support this worthwhile charity . Thank you.

Health and Well Being Week : Monday 10 – 14 November
Next week a variety of activities and programmes are being organized by the Health and Well Being team in school to promote healthy lifestyles to students. This includes each pupil being presented with a water bottle for themselves, activities on 5 a day, rowing machines, gymnastics sessions, Chillfactor visits, rebound therapy, swimming and bikeability sessions. Each class will send home details via the home / school planner. What a great week ahead.

All students will have brought their school photograph home this week. If you wish to make an order please complete and return the form to the school along with the money in the envelope provided by Friday 14th November.

Post 16 Open Day – Wednesday 5 November
For those parents and carers of Year 11 students who visited school this week, further information will be sent out in the near future with regard to the process of applying for places on the Post 16 courses at Redwood. Thank you for your attendance at the meeting.

Half Term Holiday Club
Thank you to parents / carers for your support with the recent holiday club which was attended by 72 students. The week was packed with excellent activities organized by the staff. This week the after school clubs have commenced following the half term break.

KS4
This week in Music SEB have got the microphone out and had lots of fun.

For our last Fox session we have produced some lovely fox winter scenes. Each student cut their own design. Great work...
We also had a go at producing a scraperboard fox. Each student used their own technique to produce great results for some students this was a totally new experience. Well done. Hope you enjoy your next create group after half term.

Every Tuesday Mrs Tasker’s class make cakes and popcorn to sell at Oulderhill. They do this to raise money for their end of term trip. So far they have managed to raise £40.

Some of Redwood's Key Stage 4 staff will be partaking in Survival of the fittest on the 8th November in Manchester for RED-AID.

KS3

Pupils in the Lilac group have been making Gruffalo cake and Gruffalo crumble, this work has been cross-curricular involving measurement through maths, ingredients and instructions through English & art just to mention some subjects.

8/9 Green can now identify lots of animals that live in the ocean including Angel fish, Stingrays, Turtles, Crabs and Anemones to name a few. They have created a virtual underwater world and some students can now distinguish animals that can live on both land and sea and those that can only live in the sea. Natasha knows that clams like to live on a sandy sea bed. Leah knows that crabs walk sideways.

For Bonfire night Year 8/9 Blue made chocolate apples in their food technology lesson and enjoyed eating the left over melted chocolate.

Remembrance Art Key Stage 3 department: All pupils are making a flag to commemorate 100 years of remembrance. They will make and display 100 flags altogether in St Martin’s church, Castleton where other art work will be displayed and hundreds of people will see their work.

Redwood stars help Rochdale football club under 16s ability counts team off to a flying start. Sheraz H, Mohammed H, Lewis I and Ubaidall played a great role in a winning start to the season. The team beat Manchester United 3-2 and drew with Manchester City 0-0 in league fixtures. They were also awarded 2 wins against teams who did not turn up. In 2 friendlies they managed a great 3-2 win against City and lost 1-0 against Heyside.
A great start to the season for all the players from Bridgeability and new players, including Kyle W from Oulder Hill. Well done to all – keep up the excellent work.

All pupils have been learning about Remembrance Day and have made poppies. In assembly pupils practiced the 1 minute silence.

KS5

Many of the 6th form students go to college on a Monday. There are a number of courses available and classes are taught on a rotational basis. As well as Animal Care, students can learn about Horticulture, Pottery, Catering, Technology and Photography. It’s a great change to get hands-on experience and gives the students a chance to find out about the things they like doing.

Damon and Jordan were among the many students who were honoured for their achievements in Key Stage 4. Don’t they look proud of their trophies? Well done to them.

This week, Sofia’s group were practicing looking after a baby using our life like doll. She was very gentle and showed that she cared.
