Post Ofsted Action Plan update

To keep parents and carers updated, there has been a considerable amount of work done this half term towards the action points raised within the recent inspection report. These actions have been reported to two governors sub committees, Pupil & Curriculum and Finance and Resources, which have met this month. Both committees include parent governor representatives.

The Local Authority School Improvement Officer is supporting our work towards the action plan also and monitoring the progress towards our objectives. We await our first monitoring visit by HMI and I expect this to take place after half term. If you require a more in depth overview or further details of the action plan please do not hesitate to contact me via email. I would be only too happy to give you an update.

School Closure for half term

A reminder that school will re-open on Monday 23 February at 8.45am. Thanks you for your support as ever during this half term.

KS3

Key Stage 3 held a History Day following up from our World War One Centenary Art Project which the whole department was involved in earlier in the school year.

Students accessed a wide variety of different activities throughout the day. Some students went out on the minibus to the Imperial War Museum, Allen’s Armoury and Mr Simms’s old-fashioned sweet shop. Some students who stayed in school had the opportunity to attend interactive workshops provided by Touchstones looking at life in Rochdale during the war and the experiences of a Rochdale soldier going to Gallipoli.

Some students stayed in classrooms and explored the history artefact boxes which had themes of ‘Wash Day’, ‘Homes’ and ‘Toys’. Additional activities throughout the day included role-play and treats in a mock sweet shop, cooking authentic World War One recipes and dressing up in a soldier’s uniform and wearing medals.

The day went very smoothly, workshop facilitators commentated on the positive reactions of Redwood students and staff and said they had never been looked after so well. Well done and thank you to everyone involved.

KS4

As part of the creative afternoon James was making animations independently, and Zain was working with just verbal prompts.

4J helped prepare (and eat) Chinese food as part of their ‘Being Healthy’ module. Students used chopsticks and enjoyed the food.

The bridging year visited Oldham College and Rathbone Training centre and have also completed their food hygiene certificate Level 1.

KS5

10 first year 6th form students visited the Social lounge in Heywood as part of their World of work module.

Students in the leisure group have been learning about skin care, using toner and moisturizers. Anees said he preferred the fabric face mask whilst Jobie preferred the peel off one. Student not only receive treatments, but give them as well.

In Art this term the students are learning about Japanese Artists and decorative fish. Within the subject the students will be learning how to create fish clay tiles and a fish inspired clay pot.
