Year 9 Boys Rugby Team

The Year 9 Boys Rugby Team have qualified from their group to represent Greater Manchester in the Lancashire ‘All Schools’ Finals. After the first round matches, Oulder Hill needed to win their final game to qualify in the top two from their group.

They managed to defeat Astley 2-1 with two heroic tries from star performer Max Weaver-Bamford. The next competition takes place on Friday 20 March and Oulder Hill will be competing against all of the best teams from across Lancashire. The boys are overjoyed!

Well done to: Dayne Stewart, Jack Turner, Callum Ruffell, Jordan Parkhill, Eddy Riley, Max Weaver-Bamford, Emmerson Bradshaw, Liam Hicks, Matthew Greenwood, Daniel Madeley, Marcus Welsby, Connor Marland-Lord and Hakeem Gbajabiamila. Thank you to Mr Bardsley and Mr Jackson for attending the tournament and coaching the team to success.

Year 9/10 Girls Rugby Team

The Year 9/10 Girls Rugby Team have followed the success of the Year 9 Boys Team by qualifying for the Lancashire finals, representing Greater Manchester. Playing their first ever competition, the girls won one and lost two but they managed to qualify for the finals due to the scores in other games. This is a fantastic achievement for a team participating in their first ever fixture. Congratulations to: Olivia Storto, Chloe Dring, Courtney Hubbard, Grace Mortlock-Schofield, Hannah Mills, Sofia Christoforidis, Lydia Entwistle, Jessica Harrison, Beth Chadwick, Sophie Charlton and Shannon Doyle.

Year 8 Boys Football Team

The Year 8 Boys Football Team resumed their league campaign last week with a very credible 0-0 draw against a strong Holy Family side. The students who took part were: Harry Toogood, Aadam Latif, Muzamil Bashir (Man of the Match), Luis Andrew, Connor Roscoe, Saif Zulfiqar, Oliver Godwin, Gavin Nyoni, Sulayman Qadir, Joe Golden, Max Taylor and Haaris Farooq.

U14 Boys’ Football Team

The U14 Boys’ Football Team drew 1-1 with St Cuthbert’s in their first fixture back after the mid-season break. The students involved were: Babar Malik, Danny Devine, Matthew Greenwood, Jack Turner, Marcus Welsby, Abdul Akram, Deen Imran (Man of the Match), Bailey Turner, Dayne Stewart, Tom Tobias, Hakeem Gbajabiamila, Lewis Hamer and Jordan Parkhill.

National Science Week

National Science Week takes place from Friday 13 to Friday 20 March. There are a variety of events and activities taking place in school to mark the week, including a series of after-school “Demo Days” around the theme of ‘Science on Your Doorstep’ to look at things we don’t usually have the chance to look at in lessons. There will also be a series of competitions in school around the theme of ‘Science on Your Doorstep’ that all students will have the opportunity of taking part in. Some of these entries will be chosen to be our school’s submission for the national competition.

Year 8 Options Evening

Year 8 Options Evening takes place on Thursday 19 March from 6:00 until 8:00pm. The purpose of the evening is for parents/carers and their child(ren) to find out about the curriculum model they will follow in Years 9, 10 and 11. In order to ease congestion on the evening, we invite you to arrive at different times depending on what form your child is in. Forms 8A, 8B, 8C, 8D and 8E are asked to arrive in the Theatre for a 6:00pm start, forms 8F, 8G, 8H, 8J and 8K are asked to arrive in the Theatre for a 6:45pm start. Thank you for your co-operation.

On Wednesday 25 March, Year 11 GCSE Drama students will be showcasing Fumed Oak, a one act black comedy, by Noel Coward in the Gracie Fields Theatre from 6:30pm until approximately 8:00pm. Drinks and nibbles will be served in the LRC from 6:00pm. Entry is free, and all students under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
