Power Cut
The school and the surrounding local area suffered a power cut on Tuesday for approximately one hour and despite the obvious inconvenience this caused in school and the need to have a back up plan at hand, the calmness of the students was wonderful to see .

Last week Callum and the Lilac class enjoyed celebrating Callum’s Birthday. We had lots of cakes kindly iced by Julie.

This term we will be looking at the book ‘The tiger who came to tea’, so for the reminder of the term we have borrowed Mrs Walsh’s Tiger who will be in class with us. Roarrr.

Jack S, Connor, Sophie and Jordan have had a lovely time in the Hydrotherapy Pool, they have enjoyed the calming atmosphere and bubbles. It was the first time Jack has experienced hydro and he loved it. Regular pupils have been improving and requiring less and less support from staff whilst in the pool and Jordan is even correcting his body position independently.

Our KS3 Star Signers had exceled in their signing skills in front of the whole department in assembly; they signed the lovely Cat Stephens song “Morning has broken”. The group are also developing their knowledge of signs by learning the 1st part of the foundation course learning ‘common words’.

Charlotte Hartley an international hockey player and Bronze medalist in 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth games did some work with Mr Hall’s maths groups on Tuesday morning. The results will be used in follow up maths lessons around Data Handling.

During the Summer Term Class 5D have been learning about Community and the facilities available in Rochdale. This week we visited the Rochdale Pioneers Museum. All the class were able to explore and take part in activities. This included exploring clothes worn during the First World War and standing behind the counter at the Pioneers original co-operative shop. We all had a great time.

What a fun and exciting time everyone had at The Calvert Trust near Keswick. There were plenty of activities for everyone. Billie enjoyed the horse riding and the zip wire, Alex loved the canoeing and swimming. Brandon enjoyed riding and meeting Kirby the horse and Jordan’s favourite was the zip wire.

Jamie’s highlight was the zip wire and swimming whilst Tom enjoyed the archery and the horse riding. Louis was brave on the zip wire and Katie enjoyed the canoeing. Everyone was treated to fabulous grub and there was time for socialising and chilling out in the Games Room and at the disco. Students had lots of fun and worked as a team during the Bush Craft activities. Adele, Sarah, Phil Julie, Brian and Anne loved every minute of it.
