Whitworth musician Zoe Wright can now plan rosy future

Date published: 20 August 2015

Tenor horn player Zoe Wright already plays with three bands and hopes to become a music therapist working with children with autism.

At Whitworth Community High School she achieved seven As in Music, English Literature, History, Maths, Religious Studies, Science and Additional Science, two Bs and a C.

She plays with Rochdale Youth Band, through Rochdale Music Centre, Leyland Brass Band and the National Youth Brass Band.

She has played in Austria, as the first British band to play in that area of the country, and at London’s Albert Hall, Regent Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall.

Zoe, 16, from Whitworth, said: “It was a surprise when I opened the envelope and found out my results. I was absolutely buzzing. I thought I would get Cs and I got As.

“I have enjoyed my time at Whitworth; the staff, the atmosphere and the school community has been brilliant.

“I am now going on to Rochdale Sixth Form College where I will be studying A levels in Music, Maths and Psychology.

“I have been involved with music for the majority of my life and I found out that is can have an amazing effect on children who have autism so I want to be a music therapist.

“I have been playing the tenor horn since I was five and I passed my Grade 8 exam last Christmas. I also teach two piano students.

“I want to continue brass banding as a hobby.”
