Open Evening
Our Open Evening will take place on Wednesday 23 September at 6.00pm. We welcome all families. You do not need to be Catholic to request a place at St. Cuthbert’s. Come and have a look round our brand new building and use our facilities. You will have the chance to meet with current students and staff as well as engaging in some exciting activities and competitions.

‘Boys will not be boys’ any more at St Cuthbert's
Boys will be brilliant! The new school year kicked off to a flying start as staff engaged in training to support the progress of boys as they mature into young men. Gary Wilson led the training and encouraged us all to challenge the stereotype of boys often presented in the media as lazy or disinterested. We will be giving boys a positive message about what they can achieve and who they can be. At St Cuthbert’s, Governors, leaders and teachers at all levels refuse to accept socio-economic background, gender or race as an excuse for underachievement. We are committed to identifying the causes of underachievement and encourage all to reach their aspirations.

Bookbuzz returns
This year we are excited to announce that all pupils in Year 7 and Year 8 will be participating. Every pupil will be entitled to a free book of their choice, from a pre-selected collection. Mrs Russell will be introducing the books to pupils in their English lessons next week.
Vivo points will be awarded to Year 7 pupils who have completed their Summer Reading Challenge. Booklets can be handed into reception.

Until our brand new library is ready, Mrs Russell will be running a 'mini' library and Accelerated Reader Quiz Club, at break and lunchtimes in the Linc.

Show news
Rehearsals for our Christmas production of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' will begin week commencing Mon 14th September. Singing rehearsals will be on Monday lunchtime in C42 and movement rehearsals Monday after school in the Hall until 4.00pm. Main characters will be given an update each week as to which scene is being directed. The rehearsal schedule will be posted on the pupil noticeboard, in the Music Block and on the school website on a weekly basis. Only 12 weeks to dress rehearsal!

Rochdale Half Marathon
St Cuthbert’s would like to congratulate Mr McCabe and Miss Holt, who took part in the Rochdale half marathon over the summer holidays. Both members of staff completed the marathon with the intention of raising money for a past student who has secured wonderful GCSE results despite receiving cancer treatment over the exam period. So far, a total of £462 has been raised. Well done!

St Cuthbert’s would like to welcome back all students and staff, particularly new faces. We are extremely pleased with how our students have coped with the return to school after the summer. We wish you all a safe, happy and successful year.
