Messy Church

Date published: 01 February 2014

The Salvation Army held their Messy Church event this morning (Saturday 1 February) which involved craft based sessions for families and children.

The event, which is held every month by the Salvation Army, has a Christian ethos behind it. This month’s theme was snow.

Major Paul Wilson said: "We're not expecting any snow but it is asking God to make us as clean as snow, so that is why we chose that theme this month."

The craft activities involved included making snowmen and snowflakes out of different materials. The children also played games, sang songs and were treated to a buffet at the end of the event.

Benjamin Hamilton who attended the event said: "I came because I like to make things. It was good and I would come again."

The event has been held successfully by the church for two years and is popular. Some of the messy church sessions have seen up to 70 children get involved.

Lisa Price, who is in charge of the Young People’s Sargent Major (YPSM) at the Salvation Army added: "We do different events with the children but this is very popular. We do a different theme each month and get different numbers of people at each session."

Next month's theme is the Armour of God.
