St Andrew's Church, Dearnley

We have our usual 9.30am Sung Eucharist on Sunday, Palm Sunday, when the parish rota is as follows:

Lay assistants, C Longhurst, J Halstead; readers, G Barlow, S Topham; Intercessions, C Cook; sidespersons, E Burrow, J Ainsworth; refreshments, Jean, Maureen, Edna.

In the evening we will be attending a special Palm Sunday service at St Mary's RC Church in Littleborough, starting at 6pm.

Volunteers are required please in church on Saturday at 10am to help with the making of Palm Crosses. The Fairtrade stall will be in church on Sunday and all contributions will be greatly appreciated.

Other Holy Week announcements are as follows:

  • Tuesday, April 15, Stations of the Cross, 7.30pm
  • Maundy Thursday, April 17, Shared meal and Holy Communion at Wardle Village Church, 6pm; Meal and Eucharist at St Andrew's, 8pm, followed by Gethsemane Watch until midnight.
  • Good Friday, April 18, Good Friday Liturgy, 11am; noon to 3pm, Church remains open for prayer and reflection.
  • Holy Saturday, April 19, Morning Prayer, 9am; Easter Vigil, 8pm.
  • Easter Day, April 20, Sung Eucharist, 9.30am.

At a meeting of the Mothers Union last Monday, our licensed reader, Wendy Foote, gave an interesting talk on her many trips to Russia.

Diary dates:

  • Saturday, April 26, (7pm for 7.30pm): St George's Night with Littleborough Brass Band. Tickets £8 including meat and potato pie supper.
  • Sunday, April 27 (11am): Annual parochial church meeting (anyone interested in becoming a sidesperson or serving on the PCC please speak to one of the wardens).
  • May 10: Afternoon tea
  • May 24: Spring Fair
  • Sunday, June 15 (6pm): Confirmation with Bishop Mark Davies. Anyone wishing to affirm their commitment to Christ in the sacrament of Confirmation please speak to Sharon or Mike. Classes will begin in May.
