St Andrew's, Dearnley

Date published: 23 June 2015

We've been remembering in prayer one of our former parishioners Margaret Young, who was ordained in Manchester Cathedral last Saturday and celebrated her first Communion last Sunday as curate of St Ann's in Royton.

Our own vicar, the Rev Canon Sharon Jones, who has played a lead role in Margaret's preparation over the last few years, was there to support her at St Ann's last Sunday and to preach the sermon.

In the absence also of our own curate, the Rev Michael Howarth, our Sung Eucharist was celebrated by the Rev Roger Hill.

We will have a busy weekend with our monthly parish lunch on Friday, 26 June, followed on Saturday by afternoon tea in the parish room, organised by Susan Knight.

Parish rota at Sunday's 9.30am Sung Eucharist is: lay assistants, J Mills, H Walker; readers, W Foote, J Coomer; Intercessions, C Longhurst; sidespersons, P Shrigley, B Kelly; refreshments, Jean, Maureen, Edna.

It's still not too late to sign up for our visit to the Community of the Resurrection, Mirfield on Saturday, 11 July.

We will leave at approx 9.15am and set off back at about 6pm after Solemn Evensong, which starts at 5pm.

The open day starts with a talk on Vocation at 10.30am, followed at noon by a Festival Mass, with sermon by Fr Eric CR.

Afternoon activities include Stations of Salvation Pilgrimage; a talk on Forgiveness by Fr Simon CR; prayer before the Blessed Sacrament; Confessions; Prayer of Healing and Anointing; and Benediction at 4.15pm.

In addition, there will be book and plant stalls and a treasure hunt for young and old alike.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Please note that our refurbished parish room can be hired for £15 for the first hour and £10 for each subsequent hour.
