Shoppers deserting Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre

Date published: 18/03/2008

Traders in Town Centre shopping centre Rochdale Exchange are losing custom as shoppers vote with their feet. Significantly fewer shoppers used the Exchange during the three months December 2007 to February 2008 than the same period the previous year.

Nationally, the number of shoppers was down in December and January and the Exchanage statistics mirrored this, however, worryingly, by a much larger percentage. Moreover, the Exchange drop in footfall in February was against the national trend of an increase on the previous year.

  • December 2007 saw 822,357 visitors to the Rochdale Exchange, which is a 9.9% decrease on the previous year. The national benchmark was 3.7% down on the previous year.
  • In January the footfall was 404,930, which is 30.2% down on January 2006. The national benchmark was 0.7% down on the previous year.
  • February saw 554,266 visitors, which is a decrease of 7.5% on February 2007. The national benchmark was up 1.5% on the previous year.
