I am delighted to have been selected as the Conservative candidate for Wardle and West Littleborough in this year’s local Elections.

Cllr. Robert Clegg is standing down after many years of public service and I welcome the opportunity to continue his excellent work alongside Cllr’s Ashley Dearnley and Rina Paolucci. It is an honour to represent the Conservative Party with whom I share many core values but when it comes to electing local Cllr’s I believe it is important to know about the person as well as their politics.

I am from Littleborough, I grew up here, went to school here and together with my wife Sue we have chosen to live here with our family too. We live on Union Road and prior to that we lived in Wardle village; in fact I have lived in or around Littleborough the whole of my life, as did both of my parents. Our Ward is unique and in my opinion it is the jewel in the crown when compared to other areas across the Borough. I would fight to keep it that way and make sure we receive our fair share of resources and funding.

I have a long history of public service having spent thirty years working as a police officer and was fortunate enough to serve our Borough for a number of those years at varying ranks from Constable to Chief Inspector. Before retiring in 2015, I was responsible for the delivery of Neighbourhood Policing, Community Engagement, addressing anti social behaviour and working with Rochdale Council to make our Borough a safer place.

Throughout my service I recognised the importance of working closely with people, understanding their needs and taking action to improve the quality of their lives.  My policing experience coupled with my working knowledge of Rochdale Council has given me an excellent grounding in addressing local concerns and I want to use my experience for the benefit of our community.

I have spent the last few months listening to local concerns and campaigning to improve the quality of life for those who live, work and visit our ward.  I share the many concerns that have been raised including increasing crime levels, dangerous and inconsiderate driving and parking, increased potholes on our roads, litter, dog fouling and more recently the untidy installation of Virgin Media cables and a lack of sufficient secondary school places for our children. I have taken steps to address all of these concerns and if elected will continue to do so.

With my policing background it will be no surprise that I want to see more visible policing and I will fight for an increase in uniformed patrols. I believe both personal and community safety are fundamental to any thriving economy and are integral elements of community well being. Neighbourhood policing is the cornerstone of an effective police service in terms of crime reduction, community engagement and community confidence. I will work closely with our Neighbourhood policing Team and pursue every opportunity to see an increase in our local officers.

Being an elected Cllr. would be a huge privilege and at the same time a significant responsibility. It is a position I would take very seriously and I recognise there are many challenges to overcome. I am absolutely committed and ready to work hard for the residents, businesses and visitors to our ward. I believe I have the right qualities, experience and commitment to make a positive difference.

My Pledge to you

If elected I will;

  • Always work hard in the best interests of our ward
  • Always be honest, open and transparent,
  • Always fight to achieve and maintain our fair share of resources
  • Always listen to your concerns
  • Always strive to deliver fair outcomes for everyone

I believe demonstrating a strong commitment to our area is vitally important for any candidate proving themselves worthy of your vote. Over the last seven months you will have received my leaflets and may have seen articles online seeking your opinion on local issues along with my updates on what has been achieved. Ongoing local involvement and positive action are the best predictors of future performance. I hope my work has given you the confidence to support me as your representative in the forthcoming election.
