Carol Wardle will continue to work hard for the residents of the Hopwood Hall Ward

I am extremely proud and privileged to have been elected for the last 12 years as the Labour Councillor for the Hopwood Hall Ward and am keen to continue providing the best service I possibly can for the residents and community I represent. Because I live in Heywood I want to see the best for our area because everything that happens here affects me and my family as residents and not just as a Councillor.

If elected back into office on 3rd May I pledge to continue to working hard for the people of Hollins, Gladewood, Hopwood, Pot Hall, Plum Mill, Birch, Pilsworth Rd and Egerton St, and Coommassie St area. During the last 4 years I have endeavoured to address issues brought to me and more recent problems addressed have included:

Pot Holes and Road Repairs – The state of our roads and footpaths are of major concern. The Labour Council in Rochdale has allocated £2 Million for pot-hole repairs and £12 Million to repair our roads and paths. We need to repair the damage caused by too many bad winters.

Maintaining Services - Despite the cuts in spending power, the Labour party in control of Rochdale Council has worked hard to maintain essential services: no libraries have closed, no nurseries or Surestart centres have closed and no advice services have been cut. We have protected road sweeping, street services, parks and ground maintenance services. We have also protected the social workers who look after our vulnerable children and the elderly. We want to continue to protect and maintain our services across Rochdale.

Advice Surgeries – I have always believed in being an active Councillor throughout 12 months of the year and not just at election time. Along with the two other Labour Councillors in the Hopwood Hall ward we hold more advice surgeries than any of the other 60 Councillors in the whole Borough: 40 per year.

Footpaths - I have fought hard to get new footpaths across the Ward and am campaigning currently to get more replaced.

Local Parks – I actively support our local parks and the associated Friends of Groups. Along with my 2 ward colleagues we have ensured the Friends of Hopwood Park received funding for their activities from our own Ward fund.

Alley gates – I have fought hard to get alley gates in many parts of Heywood, especially the Egerton Street and Hopwood areas. They help enormously to protect residents from crime and anti-social behaviour.

Street Cleaning – I have pushed for street cleaning in Heywood to be increased from 5 to 7 days per week and am pleased to report this has been authorised.

Illegal Fly Tipping – I have been involved in introducing the new £400 fine for fly tippers who inconsiderately dump waste in our area. Furthermore we will impound and crush any vehicle used in the offence.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to read this, and if you live in Hopwood Hall ward please vote for me again on May 3rd.
