National decisions have local consequences

Vote Labour and say NO to the local consequences of a Conservative government’s policies that attack our NHS, our education, police and social services.

It is my privilege to be the local Labour candidate for the election in Norden. I am standing because I believe my background and passion to address issues that affect our community will give Norden a greater voice in the Council.

Norden needs a Labour councillor to put forward an alternative viewpoint.

I have lived in the village for 15 years with my wife Rosey. We have four children and three grandchildren. Leaving school at 16, I trained to be an information and communications engineer, then became a manager, and have worked in the private, not for profit and public sectors. I now work as a senior lecturer at the Sheffield Hallam University and teach business and management. I believe passionately in addressing inequality in the workplace and society generally. I also feel strongly that we need to protect the environment, such as the one we all enjoy in Norden and the surrounding areas. I enjoy walking, reading and watching football and rugby. I am a committed campaigner for better childcare support for parents, affordable education for all adults who are looking, perhaps, to change their career and the reestablishment of the education maintenance allowance for our young people at college.

As your Labour candidate, I am proud that our Council has successfully:

  • Allocated £12M for urgent road repairs – work has already started on Edenfield Road
  • Protected our Surestart centres for young families
  • Protected our libraries from closure
  • Repaired the footpath from Millcroft Tea Gardens over to Ashworth

The election on the 3rd May is a local election about local issues which affect all the residents of Norden ward. I hope that you will vote for me for a number of reasons. I, like you, are very concerned about issues that have a detrimental effect on our community and, if elected, I intend to do something positive to improve them. I am committed to:

  • Improving and enhancing our green spaces
  • Providing more dog waste disposal bins around the village
  • Getting providers to improve mobile phone coverage for Norden
  • Gaining more support for our local businesses
  • Protecting the environment, especially the green belt, reducing the use of plastic and continuing the Council’s fight against fly-tipping.
  • Agreeing a traffic management plan for the village with residents, businesses, community groups and the Council and other authorities, in order to address speeding and parking issues. The first priority would be to ensure emergency access to Ashbourne Nursing Home and Moss Row sheltered housing.

With your support I will work hard to protect and develop our community. I hope that you will vote for me on Thursday 3rd May, so that I can speak up and represent ALL the residents of Norden, Ashworth, Birtle, Caldershaw and Red Lumb.

IT’S TIME FOR A HISTORIC CHANGE IN NORDEN.

ELECT A LABOUR COUNCILLOR FOR THE FIRST TIME.
