I am delighted to be the Conservative Party Candidate for Norden Ward in the local elections to be held on Thursday 3rd May 2018.
I am seeking re-election to serve all of the people of Norden, including Ashworth, Birtle and Caldershaw. During the last four years it has been a privilege and an honour to serve you as one of your local Councillors. Working as a team with Councillors Jim Gartside and Peter Winkler has been both enjoyable and fruitful. We are committed to working hard to resolve the issues and problems that Norden Ward faces throughout the year.
Here are a few of the many issues that I have been involved in with our team over the last four years:
- Speaking at the public inquiry in support of residents to stop the massive increase of wind turbines on Scout Moor;
- Speaking at Planning against inappropriate developments particularly in the green belt;
- Supporting the residents of Caldershaw when itinerant travellers set up camp on Caldershaw Green and arranging for barriers to be installed to prevent this from happening again;
- Supporting the Friends of Ashworth Valley to reduce fly tipping by arranging for signage and environmentally friendly fencing to be installed;
- Backing local residents to stop Heritage Green being sold to developers and supporting them in their in their bid to achieve Village Green status;
- Arranging for bridleways and footpaths to be cleaned up and improved;
- Working with Highways to get roads and pot -holes repaired. This is on -going with more to do;
- Arranging for the installation of rubbish bins in areas where litter and dog excrement has been a problem;
As a Team we maintain contact throughout the Ward with Surgeries, attendance at the Norden Forum, the Birtle Trust and the Police Pact meetings as well as supporting local events and resident led initiatives such as the Norden Village Spring Clean Up.
Apart from dealing with Ward matters, I also sit on a number of Council sub committees; Rochdale Township Committee, Rochdale Clean and Green Priority Committee, Rochdale Township Regeneration Group ,Rochdale Borough Regeneration Group and the Corporate Overview and Scrutiny Committee that I have chaired. I am also Chair of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Economy, Business Growth and Skills Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
I hope that you will vote for me on 3rd May so that I can continue working for all of you and to help keeping Norden Ward as a vibrant, safe and pleasant place to live and work.
