It’s a privilege to be your Labour candidate for my home ward of Milkstone & Deeplish.
I was born in Rochdale and have lived in Milkstone & Deeplish all my life.
I firmly believe that everyone has the right to make informed choices. This means making the right decision after carefully considering whom you want to represent you, your family and your neighbourhood. As your local candidate, I will work to make Milkstone & Deeplish THE PLACE where you and your family are happy to LIVE and WORK.
Some background on me. I worked in the public sector and spent over two decades working in the Learning, Skills and Community Development sector. I then became a carer for my mother, who had dementia. This led me to a career in Health & Social Care. I have spent many years campaigning for better rights for carers. I work locally and nationally speaking and raising awareness of dementia, mental health and end of life care. I am particularly passionate about these issues. I am now the Project Manager for a national Dementia Carers' charity.
I am a vigorous supporter of our world-class NHS and the real-life heroes who dedicate themselves to it. I have family members who work for the NHS. We know how our front-line workers went above and beyond their call of duty but struggled to deal with Coronavirus along with all other public health needs due to years of Conservative cuts in our public services.
I volunteer my time for our communities in a number of ways. For example, I have been the Milkstone & Deeplish Area Forum chairperson for the past seven years. I am also a member of the local Police Independent Advisory Group. With a strong voice in both areas of work. I recently lobbied the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester to address local policing and community concerns, and met with the Chief Superintendent for Rochdale. I am confident that we will begin to see positive changes, rest assured I will continue to work hard for the betterment of Milkstone & Deeplish.
If you elect me, I can assure you that being a resident of Milkstone & Deeplish, I will dedicate my time to serving our ward. Listening to you as your Ward Councillor and representing you to address the issues that matter to you, as much as they do to me.
I will seek to address the blight of speeding vehicles and anti-social behaviour. I will work with the Police and the Community Safety team to extend the roll-out of a speed awareness initiative that I previously instigated in our ward.
Protecting our green spaces, empowering young people, increasing employment and apprenticeship opportunities, promoting our thriving economy, pushing for tougher action on litter and fly-tipping are just some of the issues I will continue to work on. In addition, I will collaborate with partners to ensure our footpaths, parks, play areas, and the environment are kept clean and green and improve our area's health and well-being facilities.
I will campaign to expand the remit of the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) into our ward to deal with the issues of fly-tipping, begging and anti-social behaviour.
I will ensure residents and businesses are consulted on Rochdale Council’s Rochdale Station Masterplan, a transformative scheme which will encourage more people to come into the area and use local businesses.
I have a proven track record, and will do everything to the best of my ability to make a difference. I would be honoured to represent you along with my Labour colleagues on Rochdale Council.
I will work tirelessly to address inequalities in society, to ensure all voices are heard and represented.
I will be a strong, local voice for the ward. I will ALWAYS put Milkstone & Deeplish FIRST! We will hold regular ward surgeries in person and be available to you by phone and email.
