Local Election 2024

Jordan Tarrant-Short

Jordan Tarrant-Short

Conservative Party
North Heywood Ward

I’m Jordan Tarrant-Short, a 31-year-old legal consultant and foster carer, deeply rooted in the fabric of Heywood. It's where I’ve grown up, where I’ve built my career, and where I have chosen to raise my family. I’m standing as a candidate for local councillor because I believe in the potential of our community, and I’m committed to making a real difference locally.

Having been selected to represent North Heywood, I’ve wasted no time in getting involved. Whether it's assisting local community groups, serving as a dedicated school governor, or simply being there to support my fellow residents, I’ve made it my mission to be an active participant in the betterment of our town.

Being chosen as your Conservative candidate is an honour I don’t take lightly. I understand the responsibility that comes with it, and I am determined to earn your trust by working tirelessly to address the issues facing Heywood today. I believe in the resilience and spirit of our community, and I’m confident that together, we can overcome any challenges that come our way.

As I embark on this journey, I’m eager to engage with as many of you as possible. Your concerns, your ideas, your hopes – they all matter to me. By listening to your voices, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of what matters most to the residents of Heywood, and together we can forge a path towards a brighter, more prosperous future.

Heywood is more than just a place to me – it’s home. And if given the opportunity to serve as your Councillor, I'll do everything in my power to make it a place we can all be proud to call home!

MY SIX-POINT PLAN FOR NORTH HEYWOOD:

1) Supporting our youth – Giving young people a say in shaping our town's future is vital. I’ll work with various agencies to tackle anti-social behaviour and provide opportunities for our youth.

2) Tackling crime – I’ll collaborate closely with Greater Manchester Police to reduce violent and drug related crimes in our community.

3) Being a strong voice – I’ll represent North Heywood residents in Council and Township meetings, prioritising their needs above all else.

4) Regular meetings – Accessibility and accountability matter. I’ll hold weekly street surgeries and monthly sessions at Heywood Magic Market, or virtually, to stay connected with you all year round.

5) Protecting green spaces – Preserving our green areas is essential for wildlife and mental well-being. I’ll oppose unnecessary development on greenbelt land, focusing on brownfield sites first.

6) Cleaner, safer streets – Let's improve Heywood streets together. I’ll push for more bins, tougher penalties for littering, and prompt repairs to dangerous pavements. Road safety on George Street will also be a priority. Let's make Heywood cleaner and safer for all.
