Liberal Democrat Party
Wardle, Shore & West Littleborough Ward

Hello, I am your candidate for the Lib Dem for Wardle, Shore and West Littleborough Ward and I want to explain why I am the best choice for this ward.

I grew up in Rochdale, but my partner and I have been living in Littleborough for over seven years.

I work for Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Circle. We work with people over the age of 50 helping to reduce loneliness and isolation by offering lots of social activities, a low-cost transport scheme and a variety of food offers for our members.

My role as a Special Projects Coordinator brings me into daily contact with various departments with Rochdale Council and other agencies and voluntary sector organisations.

I attend the Pennines Local Network Forum meeting held every quarter at Littleborough Cricket Club. This forum meeting allows all services ranging from children services to medical practitioners, refugees and asylum organisations, ethnic and diverse groups, to network and share best practice.

I play an influential role with the Rochdale Diversity Network Forum and ensure that the mental health and wellbeing of all Rochdale residents and those on the fringes are best met.

In my spare time, I support and fundraise for local causes through my involvement with the Freemasons.

I host quizzes, make meals and deliver them during the Christmas period, undertake prescription runs for those isolating and carry out emergency food shopping for those that are struggling financially and have absolutely no recourse to public funds.

I love walking and have led walks around Littleborough, Shore and Wardle and like you, I share your anger about the perennial problem of dog fouling. I welcome all discussions to find a permanent solution that will make this a thing of the past.

Wardle and Littleborough is a wonderful place to live. The people are very friendly and we have so many friends. There is a fantastic community spirit and a wide array of different social groups and forums. There is beautiful countryside all around with lots of footpaths to explore and local history to learn. I care about this place.

It saddens me to see how much greenfield sites have been lost over the years to developers building 3 / 4 bedroom homes and not improving the infrastructure to support more people and more cars.

The jewel in Rochdale’s crown is rapidly diminishing with more and more development in greenfield sites.

I am constantly reminded of the importance of an additional relief road to and from Littleborough to Rochdale.

A recent report highlighted that in 2023, 100 days were plagued by temporary lights between the roundabout on Albert Royds Street and the junction of Hollingworth Road. Nearly a third of a year!

In addition to the temporary lights, the state of the road around this ward and the lack of maintenance mean that for car owners, the damage and shortened life span of their vehicle further impacts their pockets.

For many, the cost of living is a real crisis and having to make ends meet occasionally results in families having to skip meals. This is not confined to the poorer wards in Rochdale but occurs in Littleborough as well. Part of my work with Circle involves helping those that have slipped through the net.

There are anti-social problems that blight this area. These include speeding motorists, children and teenagers damaging cars and properties, blatant drug dealing, burglary and theft from cars.

We have a neighbourhood watch and if elected, I would attend those meetings and gather the reports to bring to the police attention.

I would like all the residents to report these offences to the police and not have the belief that nothing will ever be done. If you don’t report a crime, the police will think this is a crime free area. If you see poor standard of driving and you have dashcam evidence of this, again forward to the police or the neighbourhood watch.

We can all do our little bit to help improve this ward. It starts with me and hopefully others will follow my example.

If I am your ward councillor and you have a problem, contact me. I will always do my best to resolve your problem.

Vote for me on the 2nd May 2024 and I will help you to help improve and enjoy living in this ward.
