Local Election 2024

Tom Shaw

Tom Shaw

Liberal Democrat Party
West Heywood Ward

Since moving to Heywood, My partner and I have been amazed and overwhelmed with the warmth and friendliness of our neighbour's welcome. When I first drove through the area I fell in love with it. That is why I ran last year and this year I felt I had to run again to be our area's voice in a Rochdale town hall which has forgotten Heywood and leaving us behind.

My three campaigns:

  1. I am calling on the Environment Agency to revoke Valencia's license to run the Pilsworth South landfill site immediately, Bury Council to suspend all planning permission that was pushed through in December 2023 and Andy Burnham to permanently cease all Greater Manchester waste being dumped there. I am also calling for a full inquiry on the damage to health that may have potentially occurred due to the stink.

  2. I am calling for better public transport services to and from Heywood including a direct bus service from Norden to Manchester via Heywood. I am also imploring Transport for Greater Manchester to listen to residents over the proposed traffic reconfiguration. As they stand these will gridlock the town centre and inflict more damage on independent businesses who will look to take their businesses out of Heywood if these go through.

  3. More police on the streets. With anti social behaviour being a major concern to residents I am calling for more PCSO's on the beat engaging with residents.

On the 2nd of May there is a choice between just another Rochdale Labour voice in the town hall or a local Liberal Democrat who will work hard to be a voice for Heywood. My pledge to you is simple. I will work hard, be visible and be a voice for you. I offer a fair deal for Heywood.
