Date published: 10 July 2019

Independent clothing store Buckley Menswear has been shortlisted for a 2019 Drapers Independent Award by the Drapers trade magazine.

The iconic Drapers Independents Awards celebrate the best fashion retailers and brands across the UK and Ireland, recognising customer service, innovation, grit and community spirit shown by the top independent multi-brand retailers.

Buckley Menswear, which opened on Rochdale’s historic South Parade in November 2018, has been named as a one of 10 finalists for Best New Retailer ahead of a glitzy awards ceremony in London in September.

Owner of the high-end retailer, Phil Buckley said: “I was approached a few months ago by Drapers so I submitted a nomination with some info about the shop and our ethos, plus the regeneration of Rochdale.

“Actually, I was a bit blasé at first as I thought there would be lots on the finalist list, but I’m one of 10 people in the country. For a one-man independent in Rochdale, this is quite big.

“I’m very pleased and humbled to be named as a finalist. I don’t expect I’ll win, but I’m looking forward to the ceremony.”

The winners will be revealed at a lunchtime awards ceremony at The Brewery in London on 11 September 2019.
