More urine-filled bottles appear at Wince Brook

Date published: 14 February 2017

At least seven more two-litre bottles of urine have appeared in Wince Brook, with two more appearing between Tuesday 7 and Friday 10 February, adding to five from the week before.

Secretary of the Friends of Wince Brook, Joanne Hayes, and Ranger Mike Cummings have had the unpleasant task of opening and pouring away the contents.

In January, at least 44 two-litre bottles were dumped behind Apple Way, a cul-de-sac next to Wince Brook Nature Reserve. A similar number of two-litre bottles of urine were removed in March 2016, when the Friends and other organisations 'Cleaned for the Queen' and cleared a 100-metre section of footpath at the rear of Apple Way.

Joanne said: “The bottles are always two-litre full sugar Pepsi bottles with the odd Sprite bottle. Sometimes they have the tops off, sometimes they don’t. Some have been thrown over the fence, but they’re not always in the exact same spot. They’ve been in the stream before and, as far as we’re aware, it doesn’t happen anywhere else in the Borough.

“They smell like the elephant enclosure at Chester Zoo, and it’s always dark and cloudy. It’s not nice to have to clear them as they have to be poured away. Someone is going to great lengths to dispose of it, and it’s usually done in large batches, but why?

“I hope people in the area will keep vigilant. We try and keep the area clean of rubbish, so everything’s clean at the moment, but these stand out like a sore thumb.”
