Snowdon climb raises £1,200 for Mind and The Christie

Date published: 04 October 2021

Seven members of staff from the JD Sports distribution centre and P&H Haulage have raised over £1,200 for mental health charity Mind and The Christie after climbing Snowdon.

Dispatch supervisor Angie Hopkinson and six HGV drivers – Darren Hibbert, Chris Bullock, John Bauld, Andrew Blackshaw, Peter Nolan and Richard Kopiki – tackled Wales’ highest mountain on 20 September.

The idea was borne after one of Angie’s colleagues took his own life earlier this year, and the group wanted to raise awareness of the help Mind offers, as well as the hard work The Christie does to help people battling cancer.

After a “gruelling marathon event and what seemed to be more like a three peaks challenge” the team raised an impressive £1,298 for their chosen causes.

Angie said: “We would like to thank all those who donated and contributed to this monumental challenge and special thanks to Michael Rooney for being our chauffeur for the day.

“As always, our thoughts and best wishes to all those affected by the issues we have raised money for; those thoughts were of great help whilst undergoing this challenge.

“Lastly, best wishes and our heartfelt thoughts to our workmate, Otto, who was involved in a life-changing event most recently.”

Donations can still be made via JustGiving.
