Rochdale Science Extravaganza 2023

Date published: 24 March 2023

This year’s Rochdale Science Extravaganza on 19 March was the biggest and best yet, focusing on the theme of climate change and sustainability, designed for families as part of British Science Week.

Held at Number One Riverside, the Extravaganza brought together researchers, artists and professionals, offering insights into how we can play our part in securing a sustainable future.

The day offered inspirational speeches, sensational theatrical shows, an art and science exhibition, hands-on science activities, a planetarium, a rockpool experience and much more from the likes of Noisy Toys, JBA Trust, The Blair Project, the Rochdale Islamic Academy, Ayna Arts, Aqualease Rock Pool Experience, and many more.

Mohammed Rahman, founding director of Rochdale Science Initiative, which hosted the event alongside the Bangladesh Association and Community Project, said: “Thank you all very much for taking the time to grace us with your presence. The positive feedback is overwhelming and numbers speak for itself. It was a pleasure from hosts to visitors alike, and a smooth experience.

“The team loved it, the presenters and stalls were thrilled, and from what we’ve seen, you’ve all loved it too. An amazing event, definitely our best, but not our peak. March 2023, you were great, but next time we still can do even better.

“See you again for the next time, and stay up to date to see how you could involve yourself in the next project. A massive thank you to our amazing team of volunteers, we are so grateful for all your hard work.”

BACP manager, Habibul Ahad, commented: “Bangladesh Association and Community Project prides itself in having partnered with Rochdale Science Initiative this year, in delivering what has been an excellent and very successful event, judging from the footfall, excitement and feedback from those who attended.

“BACP's motto is 'working together in developing a sustainable community' and partnerships like this go a long way to help achieve our purpose.

“The time that was spent in planning and preparing for this event and the engagements of the volunteers, children and young people that was generated only go to show that it has been a worthwhile effort.

“We like to thank all our sponsors who helped in making this event successful, and great kudos to RSI.”

The fun-filled event was founded by Mohammed’s son, Labib Rahman, then 10, in 2017, due to his love of science. Since then, the annual Science Extravaganza has grown over the years, inspiring thousands of people.
