Jade Lea Hegarty, Rochdale’s finalist in the Mecca Star Search competition, has performed at Mecca Rochdale for the first time.

Taking to the stage on Sunday (26 April) evening, Jade performed ‘Yours’, by Ella Henderson.

Jade, 24, has been singing since the age of 11 and decided to perform ‘Yours’ after receiving some advice from one of the judges at her regional heat.

Speaking to Rochdale Online, Jade said: “I performed ‘Yours’ in the regional heat and one of the judges said I did a really good job and gave me some really good advice, so I thought he knows what he is talking about, I'll stick with the song.”

The final of Mecca Star Search will take place in Blackpool on 6 June.

“I’m really excited about it, I’m really looking forward to it. I would like to win, but seeing the calibre of the people in the heats, then I don’t know,” said Jade.

Whether she wins or loses the final, Jade will continue singing.

She added: “I am gigging at the minute so I think whatever happens, I will keep singing. This is the first competition where I have got really far so I will keep working at it.”

For the competition, Jade has been sponsored by 25Ten Boutique and Paradise Takeaway, and Angela and Ian Sanderson provided banners for her performances.
