Local Election 2012

David J Clayton

David J Clayton

Liberal Democrat Party
Kingsway Ward

I am 49 years old, married to Jane and we have three children, Catherine 22, Shaun 20 and Mark 16. We live in the centre of Kingsway ward at 31 Deepdale Avenue, near Morrison's. I have been Head of History at Crompton High School in Shaw for the past 25 years. I have been privileged to represent Kingsway ward for the past eight years.

Why should people vote for me? Well firstly I am a local candidate living in the ward. I truly believe that a local representative should live in the community they represent and we have lived here in Kingsway since 1992.

I have always endeavoured to represent all of the people in Kingsway to the best of my ability, and my guiding principle in politics is to put the interests of the ward first before party allegiance – if there is a conflict. For example, I was involved in the campaign against the Kingsway development and voted against all three parties on this issue.

However now Kingsway is progressing I see it as part of my role to make it work as well as possible for local people. When the new JD warehouse was built for example I was instrumental in getting the new outside lights altered as they were proving to be a real nuisance in the evening for local residents.

I enjoy campaigning to help make our area a safer, greener and more pleasant place to live. Over the years I have helped set up resident groups in Belfield, Moss Street area and the TAG around Milnrow Road. It is great when people come together and work for the good of our ward.

I always try to be as positive as possible and highlight the success we have had e.g. the erection of a new fence for the bowlers of Buersil Bowling Club, finding funds for various youth activities and monitoring the traffic in Kingsway.

I recently campaigned to get the builders of the housing evelopment off Milnrow Road to honour their planning conditions in regard to open spaces and a play area near Kenworthy Street.

Finally can I remind all those Conservative minded voters that until we replace our unfair electoral system they might end up letting in the Labour man through the back door. Please use your vote carefully.
